iPhone Upgrade Program popularity has hit extremely impressive levels, suggests a survey of US iPhone owners. It found that 36% of them were already members, and a further 25% plan to join it. This could suggest that Apple is well on its way to addressing one of the biggest challenges facing the company … As we noted last year, upgrade cycles – the length of time consumers go between phone upgrades – has been steadily increasing over the years....

Apple appears to have improved the durability of the iPhone 7 compared to the iPhone 6s, as highlighted by a new drop test video by EverythingApplePro. The iPhone 7 does very well in this specific test, sustaining ten foot face-down and side drops without cracking the screen. In contrast, the iPhone 6s was completely shattered at drops of five-feet. The iPhone 7’s rear sapphire cover glass (the camera bump) was damaged but the person could still take photos....

Apple is set to launch the iPhone in China and 21 other markets this Friday, Jan. 13. As of yet, the device is only confirmed to launch on China Unicom, the nation’s second-largest wireless carrier and currently the sole provider of the iPhone in the country. The possibility of iPad production in India got a step closer today, as the government approved a proposal to offer a billion dollars’ worth of incentives. The production-linked incentive (PLI) plan is specifically aimed at manufacturing tablets and computing equipment. The equipment needed to carry out a proper eye examination typically costs $20-40k; the Smart Vision Labs SVOne aims to reduce that cost to just $4k by using an iPhone as part of the kit. The iPhone takes a series of photos of the eye, while an app performs the analysis and generates a prescription. The company is partnering with Vodafone India for the launch, which is expected to take place in September.
