Apple once again dominated Christmas day smartphone activations in the US, according to new data from Flurry Analytics. The data indicates that the iPhone accounted for nine of the top ten smartphone activations on Christmas day this year, although total activations were down compared to 2019. Interestingly enough, the iPhone 11 was the most popular iPhone activated on Christmas day, followed by the iPhone XR and the iPhone 12 Pro Max....

Today we’re taking a look at the iPad Pro. On the surface, it may look like a giant Netflix machine, but well… it kind of is. This is the biggest iPad ever without a doubt, that packs a 12.9-inch display and obviously has a much larger footprint when compared to the iPad Air 2, this is larger by 78 percent actually. But enough with the small talk, let’s take a look inside of the box....

We just posted images that allegedly show the ‘iPhone 4S’ body, an entry-level iPhone that Apple is rumored to release alongside the iPhone 5. Now, MacPost (via MacRumors) has published images of what they describe as the “iPhone 5 EVT prototype (N94) back cover”. The report notes that we found references to the “N94” in the iOS 5.0 SDK earlier this year, which we suspect could be an A5-powered next-gen iPhone (whether it’s the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 is still unclear)....

The hard-to-find iPhone 5s now has immediate availability in the online Apple Store if you opt for in-store pickup. A new dual-camera system, storage and RAM upgrades, a tweaked physical design, and possibly the Smart Connector that debuted on Apple’s iPad Pro line. Samsung, which reported its second-quarter earnings today, ranks as the world’s second-largest smartphone maker in units, but the company said it will cease reporting phone and tablet sales citing competition from Apple....

The iPhone X features a very different external appearance and design. Thanks to the iFixit teardown, we can now confirm that the internal design is also radically different and new. The iPhone X has an L-shaped two-cell battery, an ‘unprecedented degree of miniaturization’ for the main logic board, and many other changes compared to the iPhone 8 series. The logic board inside the iPhone X takes up about 70% of the space of an iPhone 8 Plus, despite packing in even more connectors and chips....

Opera MediaWorks is out today with its latest report on the state of mobile platforms for Q3 2013. The report, which gathers data from billions of ad impressions each month, notes that iOS continues the lead for mobile advertising, with around 44.4% of all ad requests and 50% of revenue on its platform. That’s compared to 31.32% for Android, but the lead for Apple is mostly thanks to gains from iPad....

Let’s just cut to the chase: if you already own 2018’s refresh of the iPad Pro, you probably shouldn’t upgrade to the 2020 edition. That’s because this latest iPad Pro is more of an incremental update than its predecessors have traditionally been. In terms of specs, it’s probably the most lukewarm upgrade we’ve had in an iPad Pro since the often-forgotten 9.7-inch model was released in early 2016. ArsTechnica has been putting the iPad Pro through its paces in a whole raft of benchmark tests, comparing it to other iOS devices as well as to MacBooks and Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4. When it comes to other iPads, nothing comes close in Geekbench tests. In single-core tests, the iPad Pro gets an overall score of 3233 against 1831 for the iPad Air 2. The much newer iPhone 6S gets closest, at 2537....

While at least one person in the United States has already received their iPhone 6s after pre-ordering with the rest of us, iPhone 6s launch day has officially kicked off on the other side of the planet. The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus go on sale at 8 am local time in a dozen markets around the world. New Zealand goes first at authorized resellers as there are no Apple Stores in the country, then the first Apple Stores in Australia two hours later, followed Japan and China and others before starting in the United States 16 hours from the start....

While yesterday’s iPad numbers don’t look great – down 12.5% year-on-year, the third successive quarter in which sales have fallen – Tim Cook remains upbeat about the product, stating that it “has a great future” and that its long-term prospects are more important than “individual 90-day clicks.” Quartz‘s Dan Frommer pulled together some of the things Cook has to say about the device, and while you’d clearly expect Apple’s CEO to put the best possible spin on things, he makes some reasonable arguments … First, argued Cook, the numbers are not as bad as they seem....

According to Macotakara, Apple has plans to cut out the Space Gray version of the iPhone 7 this time around and replace it with a deep blue iPhone color. From my point of view, Apple has played so fast and loose with the term “space gray” that this deep blue might be an evolution of the color. Seriously though. Apple has a blue iPod Touch (remember those things #TBT) which could serve as a base point for a deep blue iPhone but in reality I’m not putting a lot of hope in this one becoming real....

Primary iPhone assembler Foxconn has reported record revenue in 2019, its highest ever full-year result. The company says it expects this year to deliver even stronger results… Digitimes reports that Q4 2019 revenue was the second sequential year of record revenue. It is expecting “small” growth in most areas this year, including iPhone assembly, with larger growth in its server and network sector. Foxconn’s consolidated revenues arrived at NT$5.33 trillion in full-year 2019, up slightly by 0....

After the iPhone 12 launch, Apple saw double-digit growth in Q4 2020 in Gulf countries, which includes Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates. This is according to new data from IDC. The overall mobile phone market of the Gulf Cooperation Council region experienced quarter-over-quarter growth of 8.2% in Q4 2020 to a total of 5.38 million units. Saudi Arabia accounted for 49.4% of all smartphones shipped within the GCC region in Q4....

“Three or four years from now, no mobile device vendor – no matter what their market position today – will be in a ‘comfort zone’,” said ABI Research vice president and research director Stuart Carlaw. Developed and developing markets for these devices are being shaped by divergent forces – developed markets are typically highly saturated, highly competitive and highly segmented, with strong product innovation, the analysts note.
