This past weekend, an image claiming to show a bin of boxes for Apple’s upcoming lower-cost, plastic iPhone emerged with “iPhone 5C” as the purported product name. However, earlier today, the image was claimed to be debunked due to some minor inconsistencies and image distortion. The inconstancies do not seem to be prominent enough, though, to completely rule out legitimacy. Now, BusinessInsider is separately reporting that “iPhone 5C” will be the name of the upcoming plastic iPhone....

Research firm IHS, which previously dismantled the iPhone 5s and 5c to calculate component costs, has now done the same with the iPad Air. It concludes that while the technology in the iPad Air is significantly more advanced than in the iPad 3 (for some reason the company skipped the iPad 4), the total production cost is actually lower, reports AllThingsD. The display and touchscreen assembly is significantly more advanced than earlier models, with a higher combined production cost of $133, says IHS....

I wrote earlier that I was hoping the 2018 12.9-inch iPad Pro was going to prove to be, as Apple claimed, ‘the ultimate iPad.’ All the joy of that huge screen in a form factor which didn’t prove too great a compromise when it came to comfort and portability. Bloomberg reports that iPads sold by Apple in China come standard with two years of the AppleCare protection plan. This differs from the one year standard in all other countries Apple sells the iPad in. The reason iPads from China include two-year warranties is because the Chinese government classifies Apple’s tablet as a computer and computers in China are required by law to include two-year warranties. We think this is quite interesting and it attests to the fact that many people are considering the iPad as either a laptop/netbook replacement or a secondary computer....

There have been multiple reports citing that Apple’s iPhone won’t be getting a 5G modem until the 2020 models. A press release by the company announces that no less than five million of the new smartphones have been sold in the first three days after its release. This is an incredible figure even by Apple’s standards. The the last model before the iPhone 5, the iPhone 4S, had sold around four million units in the first days after its release.
