Apple began taking reservations for its iPhone 4S in Hong Kong and 14 additional countries this past Friday, but pre-orders sold out in ten minutes (even though Siri does not speak yet Mandarin or Cantonese), according to a research note by Ticonderoga analyst Brian White. Faced with shortages, users then turned to South Korea, Chosun reported, where they pre-ordered about 200,000 handsets at SK Telekom and KT, the country’s two largest carriers....

Kantar data shows that the iPhone 6 Plus managed to take a 41% share of all US phablet sales for the August to October quarter, despite only being on sale for a little over one of those months and significant supply constraints. In all, four component suppliers all report flat or declining orders … Digitimes reports that camera lens supplier Largan Precision saw flat November revenues; chassis maker Catcher Technology and touch panel supplier General Interface Solution reported declining revenue in the same month; while touch module supplier TPK holding expects December revenue to fall....

In a left-field rumor, EverythingApplePro is reporting that Chinese accessory manufacturers believe that the iPhone 12 will include an intriguing new set of internal magnets. The iPad Pro is packed full of magnets that aids attachment of the Magic Keyboard. For the iPhone 12, the utility is not immediately clear. As the new ring of magnets is positioned in the chassis in the same place as the wireless charging coil, it is speculated that Apple might be working on a new wireless charging mat to which the iPhone 12 could automatically snap....

While a previous Macotakara report suggested that the iPhone 7 would be available in a deep blue color, replacing Space Gray, the blog is now suggesting that this is not the case. This tallies with something heard from one of our own sources … I have heard another information that space grey would not be disconnected, but would be possibly updated to much darker color. Also, the new color would not be deep blue, but possibly formal black which is close to black....
