It’s no secret that Apple has run into trouble manufacturing the iPhone X. Numerous reports have highlighted the delays and struggles that ultimately led to the October/November release window Apple announced last week. Now, a new investor note from Barron’s says that Apple has run into even more production issues… According to analyst Christopher Case, Apple has yet to start production of the iPhone X ahead of preorders next month. Case, who has spent the past week traveling through Asia for meetings with supply chain companies, says that his checks indicate “final production of iPhone X has not yet begun....

Now that the iPhone Xs and Apple Watch Series 4 have officially been announced, we can dive deeper into the specifications of each, as well as the changes compared to the iPhone X and Apple Watch Series 3. For both the iPhone Xs and Apple Watch Series 4, Apple briefly mentioned battery life – but looking closer, there are a few changes worth noting. iPhone Xs: For the iPhone Xs, Apple says users will get 30 more minutes of battery life with this year’s device than with the 2017 iPhone X....

iOS hacker extraordinaire, Comex has done what he does best and has jailbroken Apple’s latest device. Comex has yet to say when the jailbreak will made public, and how it works, but we now at least know the iPad 2 is able to be jailbroken. Interestingly, Comex was able to jailbreak it remotely. Even better is that it looks like the 3G variants of the iPad 2 will have a jailbreak available, too, as Comex’s white iPad 2 is the Verizon version....

The forthcoming March 7 announcement of a third-generation iPad will (again) force third-party developers to update user interfaces with high-resolution graphic assets that will take advantage of the tablet’s substantial pixel density increase. Some developers took to Twitter to complain that Apple currently does not provide tools for them to test how apps will look on the iPad 3....

Counterpoint research has put together an estimate of the iPhone 12 component costs in a so-called Bill of Materials (BOM) analysis. It estimates that Apple’s total cost for materials for the US version of the middle-tier base model iPhone 12 is $431 – 26% up on the iPhone 11. The company provided a breakdown of some of the main costs involved … 5G components were, of course, a significant element. The US models cost more, as they include mmWave 5G....

Last time we checked in, Tencent had reported four million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus unofficial reservations had been recorded. In an update today, the site now says that combined preorders (which began on Friday) from sales channels have exceeded 20 million. Via Digitimes, which originally found the post from Tencent: The report stated that pre-orders on website Jingdong Mall reached nearly 10 million over the period, which coupled with orders direct to major telecom providers and Apple pushed total orders to 20 million....

T-Mobile has reported that pre-orders for the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus have shattered sales records, with orders four times higher than the iPhone 6. Sprint is also reporting almost four times as many orders for the iPhone 7 this year, though its comparison was against the 6s … Sprint says that pre-orders are up more than 375% over three days when compared to last year’s numbers. Many had suspected that iPhone 7 sales might be disappointing given a similar design to the 6/6s, suspicions heightened by Apple’s announcement that it would not be revealing opening weekend sales figures....

We all know about the Call of Duty video game franchise for more than a decade and still counting. Now, the franchise comes with a new edition of the first-person shooter video game named Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Treyarch, Raven Software, and Activision have come up with this new 6th version of the Black Ops lineup that’s currently in Pre-Order + Open Beta Early Access mode at the time of writing this article....

This morning, a video hit the web that purportedly showed off a slew of new Apple Smart Covers designed for the upcoming fifth-generation iPad. While we were skeptical this morning, many viewers of the claimed leak believed that the covers were authentic. Sure the quality looks fine and the covers fit the size of the much leaked upcoming iPad, but one part did not sit right with me: the metal hinge....

The iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are now available to preorder from Apple’s Online Store and participating carriers in the twelve launch countries, priced from $199 through $499 on a typical 2 year contract. Last year, Apple sold ten million phones in opening weekend numbers and analysts expect similar results this time. Until the phones go out of stock, preorders made today should deliver on the 25th September when the phones officially go on sale....

We have received a tipoff that major distribution channels for resellers have run out of iPad Air 2 supply, ahead of the iPhone 7 event next week on Wednesday. This means that resellers are running dry of iPad Air 2 units to sell onto customers. This is usually indicate of an upcoming refresh. DxOMark recently published its review of the iPhone 6s, and it confirms what we already sort-of new: it’s not a huge step up from the last generation iPhones. In fact, the camera performs ever-so-slightly worse than last year’s iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, which both entered the DxOMark rankings in 1st place when they were reviewed last year.
