The latest example is a rather sophisticated and devious trick used by an app that claims to read your heart rate through your fingertip using Touch ID. In reality, the app (which is currently on the App Store) uses your fingerprint to authorize a transaction for $89....

The report is following up on Bloomberg’s report about a smaller iPhone but adds some new details such as the device’s “N97” codename and size. The WSJ also claims the new, smaller iPhone will be available “at about half the price of Apple’s main line of iPhones....

Apple iPhones have a good repo when it comes to device support in terms of hardware as well as software support. Their policy of supporting all their iPhone models with five years of comprehensive software updates gives a sense of security. This is the reason why most people feel comfortable even when buying a year-old model of iPhone. But what about iPhone models which were launched back in 2018 or 2019?...

Apple has announced that the iPhone X will go on sale in 13 more countries on November 24. It is currently available in 57 countries … It was estimated yesterday that Apple makes a higher margin on the iPhone X, despite its higher manufacturing cost. The pure production cost is said to be around $357.50, giving Apple a 64% margin, compared to 59% for the iPhone 8. iPhone X will be available to customers beginning Friday, November 24, in Albania, Bosnia, Cambodia, Kosovo, Macau, Macedonia, Malaysia, Montenegro, Serbia, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand and Turkey....

New data from CIRP, Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, shows that iPhone XR was the best selling iPhone model in the United States over the past fiscal quarter, accounting for nearly 40% of total sales. Interestingly, the iPhone XS and XS Max combined accounted for just over 25%. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone XS was the most unpopular new iPhone, being outsold by its Max counterpart by a “more than two-to-one ratio”. Considering the XR subsequently outsells the XS Max by an even larger margin, we can assume there’s at least four iPhone XR sold for every one iPhone XS....

A few months back, the iPhone overtook the 5 megapixel Nokia N95 as the most popular cameraphone on Flickr. Even though it looks like there was a slight hiccup since then, gasp, the iPhone appears to be widening the lead. As Flickr (Yahoo!) is a fairly international company with an international userbase and iPhone’s global distribution is just starting to approach that of the Nokia N95, we expect that margin to widen, even with the iPhone’s relatively paltry 2 megapixel, flashless camera....

The first Irresistible trailer for the Jon Stewart comedy stars Steve Carell as a determined Democrat. Once the king of late night TV for many, Stewart has been largely absent from the public eye since leaving his Daily Show duties in 2015. This isn’t to say Stewart hasn’t kept busy, of course. Shortly after his departure from The Daily Show, HBO announced they would be pairing with the comedian for a new animated parody of cable news....

The company conspicuously didn’t release the threat on their own PR webpage but through other media outlets – if that is any indication. Marvel Studios has had an impeccable run since they founded the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008. They’ve launched countless franchises worthy of sequels, but the often forgotten addition to the lore was The Incredible Hulk. Much of this is thanks to actor Mark Ruffalo replacing Edward Norton as the hero, Bruce Banner, but the universe has slowly started to tie even this film into the larger world. Apple CEO Steve Jobs told CNBC: “We just didn’t have a chance to close a deal with Russia. And I think you’ll see agreements happen later this year.” Now, reports out of Moscow this morning suggest local networks may be in talks with Apple to introduce the device in Russia, a country where jailbroken first-generation iPhones command as much as $1,000 each, with around 20,000 units smuggled into Russia every month, according to local analysts Local networks s, Mobile TeleSystems and MegaFone have both been described as being in talks with Apple, but both may be trounced by second-largest network, VimpelCom, as that network moves to switch on its 3G network in Russia this year....

As things heat up in the row on alleged tax avoidance by Apple, Ireland has denied a claim made by the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations that it had agreed a special deal with the company to allow it to pay corporation tax of just 2% on its Irish earnings. Unbox Therapy looks at what the iPad 5 with its significantly smaller side bezels will look and feel like in this video. There really isn’t anything new in the video as we’ve expected this form factor since January, but it is interesting to see how the new iPad will fit in one (medium/large) hand and take after the Mini in design. For instance, the speaker on the bottom will improve sound when being played laying flat....

There are scattered reports of iPhone 11 GPS tracking problems, some users reporting the issue affecting the exercise tracking app Strava, while others say is it also impacting other apps, like Waze… A Strava user who started a thread on Reddit says that the developer behind the app describes it as an issue with the iPhone 11 Pro. Other users are reporting the same issue with other apps. I’ve been working with Strava directly and they are stating the iPhone 11 pro is not tracking horizontal data correctly....
