Sales channel data from 35 countries compiled by Counterpoint shows that the iPhone 5s remained the world’s best-selling phone as of May, some eight months after its launch. This backs up a report from ABI Research that the phone had retained the number one slot through Q1. The news wasn’t quite so good for the iPhone 5c, which came in at number 5, behind both the Samsung S5 and last year’s S4 – as well as the company’s Note 3 phablet....

New Q2 data from both Strategy Analytics and Kantar shows that the iPhone 6s is the best-selling smartphone in both the USA and worldwide. The 6s accounted for 4.2% of global smartphone sales, says SA, with the iPhone 6 taking second place at 2.5%, just ahead of Samsung’s Galaxy S7 at 2.4%. Kantar’s U.S. data concurs, the company noting that iOS market share was also up … “Apple’s iPhone 6s is currently the world’s most popular smartphone,” said Neil Mawston, Executive Director at Strategy Analytics....

The survey was done by research firm On Device and it shows that the new iOS 6 features aren’t impressive to users, and there’s a slight decrease in their level of satisfaction. If the level of satisfaction was 6.93 out of 10 at the time of the iOS 4 update, growing to 7.75 for iOS 5 and it’s now at 7.65 or iOS 6. This slight decrease may be due to the dissatisfaction with Apple giving up on Google Maps to make room for its own maps app....

Phil Schiller mentioned on stage at Apple’s event today that the new iPhones include the most LTE bands that have ever been included in the company’s smartphones. Some iPhone X/iPhone XS users are complaining that it’s too easy to accidentally turn on the iPhone flashlight from the Lock screen … USA Today reports that several hundred users have reported the problem to Apple. The complaints relate to the iPhone flashlight shortcut at the bottom-left of the Lock screen. Users complain it’s too easy to accidentally hit this while simply holding or unlocking the device, with some reporting that it also switches on in their pocket or while removing it from a pocket....

iPhone production in India is being expanded to include assembly of printed circuit boards (PCBs) by Wistron for the first time. Fellow iPhone assembler Foxconn already does this in its own plants for the iPhone XR… PCBs are the heart of the iPhone, holding the A-series chip, RAM, flash storage, radio chip, and so on. Once populated with chips, they represent around half the value of the iPhone. Reuters cites two sources stating that Wistron will begin assembling these....

A new report from Reuters outlines the push from Roombo vacuum maker iRobot to expand further into smart home territory. According to the report, iRobot is looking to start collecting mapping information and sell it to tech companies such as Apple to help improve their smart home information.
