Being in school IT, I’ve been around the iPad from day one. I’ve owned just about every iPad over the years (original, 2, 3, mini, Air, mini 4, 10.5-inch Pro, 12.9-inch Pro, and 11-inch Pro). I’ve deployed thousands of iPads since 2010, and I’ve worked with countless students and teachers on using the iPad in the classroom. I know the iPad. I can explain the good, and I can vent about the bad....
We initially detailled what developers were calling an ‘iPhone 4S’ way back in April. It was essentially an iPhone 4 with an upgraded processor. Then an iPhone that was supposed to be running on T-Mobile USA’s 3G network turned up shortly thereafter with an interesting antenna design. Today, iPatchiPods.com and MacRumors stumbled upon some of what they think might be ‘iPhone 4S’ bodies. Both sides of the frame are shown above and feature a slightly different antenna design than the iPhone 4 with the only breaks being at the bottom of the phone....
As Apple prepares to report its earnings results for the second quarter of the 2021 fiscal year next week, a new report by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners finds that iPhone 12 models accounted for 61% of US iPhone sales in the quarter. According to the analysis, of all the iPhone 12 models, the iPhone 12 was the best selling, followed by the 12 Pro Max, 12 Pro, and 12 mini. iPhone 11 had the largest share for a single model, at 24%....
Evan Blass, prominent leaker and VentureBeat reporter, has revealed what he believes to be the release window for the next iPhone. If his hunch is correct, then we should expect the iPhone 7 and its various iterations to be released during the week of September 12th, 2016. Since Apple traditionally positions its major hardware releases for Fridays, a release during the week of September 12th would mean that the next iPhone would be released on Friday, September 16th, 2016....
The UK newspaper had claimed Apple plans to introduce a small version of the iPhone, quickly dubbed the ‘iPhone nano’. This gadget was reportedly to ship in time for Christmas and to be made available on a pay-as-you-go basis. The analyst counters, “While we believe Apple is working on a lower-end iPhone form factor, we do not think one will come until Spring 2009." This suggests Apple is working to deliver such a device, but isn’t planning one just yet, after all, the company has enough to do shipping the existing iPhone 3G to 50 more countries before the end of the year, the analyst writes....
Phil Schiller’s real testimony in the Apple v. Samsung damages trial will come later today, but he put the importance of the iPhone into perspective in his opening remarks yesterday by stating that Apple “bet the company” on it (via CNET). Schiller underlined this by stating that in the early days of development, just 100 people were working on the iPhone – now almost everyone in the company does. Most of the day was spent on technical accounting arguments, trying to determine exactly how much money Apple lost as a result of Samsung’s patent infringements, how much profit Samsung made and what would have been a reasonable payment had Samsung licensed the patents....
Asus unveiled Zenfone Max Pro M2 in December 2018 with Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box. The phone falls in a mid-range category sporting Snapdragon 660 SoC along with up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. Zenfone Max Pro M2 features a dual 12+5MP snappers at the back along with a 13MP snapper at the front and it is powered by a 5,000 mAh battery. Talking about if Asus Zenfone Max Pro M2 will get Android 11 R, the short answer is NO....
Shipping times on the iPhone 5s have improved great worldwide, as noted by iGen. Following the phone’s launch, supplies were heavily constrained and shipping times lagged. Apple seems to have finally caught up with the demand for its latest smartphone, however, as global shipping times today are down to just one or two weeks. The iPhone 5c, which launched alongside the 5s, is still shipping within 24 hours of ordering. Supply for that model have not been nearly as limited as the 5s....
It’s iPhone buying season again and this year we’re faced with a very tough decision. Apple recently unveiled the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at its press event on Sept. 9, 2014 and as many rumors indicated, we now have a 4.7-inch model and a 5.5-inch model. Taiwanese Apple-focused forum Apple.pro has leaked what appears to be an iPad 3 part, pictured below. The machine-translated description mentions a part labeled “821-1259-06” which looks a lot like a dock connector with the accompanying ribbon cable attached to it. The ribbon cable itself makes a 90-degree turn whereas it was straight on iPad 1 and 2. This in itself indicates some design changes of the next iPad’s internals. For comparison, the iPad 2’s dock connector is labeled “821-1180-A”, the site observes....

Perhaps you’ve been wondering if Apple will feel much impact once those Android and Chrome-powered tablets ship in 2011 — now a pair of reports suggest the magical iPad is set to maintain dominance for some time yet. Report one tells us LG Display shipped 1.5 million iPad panels in November, while Samsung delivered 1.2 million units, suggesting Apple might have sold nearly three million iPads this month. The future’s bright — iPad shipments will reach 65 million units in 2011, Digitimes informs — strangley around 50 percent higher than market estimates....
Another day, another series of iPhone rumors. Yesterday’s roundup included the latest information about a September 18th next-generation iPhone launch date, faked benchmarks, and new system-on-a-chip schematics, and today our roundup covers a likely fake rose gold iPhone 6S image, reservations for the new phone from carriers, and Germany, and a pair of claims out of China about future iPhone models. Let’s start with the rose gold image: Based on claims from reliable analysts, and Apple’s history of expanding colors and features across its product portfolio, a rose gold or pink version of the iPhone 6S sounds highly likely....
Rumors that Apple will ditch the headphone jack with this fall’s iPhone update have been around for a while now, but Japanese magazine Mac Fan today has shared detailed design schematics of the purported iPhone 7 ‘Pro.’ According to the magazine, the device will feature the same overall size as the iPhone 6s Plus, but is expected to ditch the headphone jack and feature dual iSight cameras on the back (via Macotakara....
Meanwhile, Apple’s set to work with Korea Telecom and NTT DoCoMo to launch the device in Japan, South Korea, India, Indonesia and China; and Apple’s existing iPhone partners in the UK, France and Germany seem set to keep their exclusive status, even while the company makes deals with multiple carriers in other territories. June 9 launch Straight to the big deal, though, with Gizmodo this morning citing the usual shadowy “sources” to definitively claim the next generation 3G iPhone will be announced during the WWDC keynote – and will be available worldwide directly after launch, staggered across June/July (we suspect)....
Government action that badly disrupted iPhone production in India is no longer affecting imports of iPhone components, according to a Foxconn statement… Escalation of a long-running border dispute between India and China had left Foxconn waiting for iPhone parts. A subsequent report said that the Indian government was considering exceptions for imports by foreign companies like Apple, and a new Reuters report suggests that this solution has now been agreed....
I use this diary format to provide my take on iDevices for three reasons. First, because initial impressions can be misleading. Second, because tastes, of course, vary. And third, in recognition of the fact that you can’t really look at a single device in isolation – we also need to understand the role it plays in our own personal Apple ecosystem. If I were looking to have just two devices – a laptop and a phone – then there would be only one sensible choice for me: the iPhone 6s Plus....
