Swisscom will be one of the first carriers of the 3G iPhone, the report claims. The source apparantly reveals the 16GB will cost 659 Swiss Francs, while a 32GB model will cost 799 Swiss Francs, according to a local Swiss report. The 16 GB model “will only be delivered in silver, while the 32 GB in silver, black and white type,” claims a rough Google Translation of the page....
The iPhone SE 2 — or whatever Apple would call a successor to the SE — has provoked more comment than any iPhone that doesn’t yet, and likely never will, exist. Regular readers will know that I’m a great fan of the size and slab-sided design of the iPhone SE. I welcomed its introduction in 2016, “downgraded” to it shortly afterwards, and quickly knew it was the right decision. It was only a desire to experience the next generation of iPhones that had me move on from it....
Apple did something very uncharacteristic with the launch of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus – it made the devices both thicker and heavier than their predecessors. While many people attributed this weight gain to the new 7000 series aluminum the new iPhones use. It appears, however, that the weight gain is actually attributable to the new 3D Touch display. According to figures revealed in the official environmental documents for the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, the new display assembly weighs twice as much as the display assembly used in last year’s iPhone models....
The latest purported iPhone 7 schematics (via uSwitch) surfacing today continue to portray Apple’s next generation iPhones as very similar to the current generation models, save for a few notable changes. As previous rumors have suggested since late last year, both size models of the next iPhone 7 are expected to drop the headphone jack completely, requiring either Bluetooth or Lightning connection to use headphones. At least one rumor suggested one model could keep the headphone jack....

A Taiwanese iPhone 8 Plus owner has claimed that her device split open while being charged with the supplied cable and plug adapter. She posted photos which show damage consistent with a swollen battery. A Japanese owner has posted similar photos of his device, which he says arrived in this state … The first device affected is being examined by Apple, reports ifeng (via TNW). Some media reports are describing it as an ‘explosion,’ but there is no visible evidence of any burn marks, and much more extensive damage would be expected were this the case....
The latest Kantar data shows that the iPhone’s U.S. market share grew 6.4% year-on-year in the three months ending in November of last year. iOS made gains in seven of the nine key markets monitored by the market intelligence company. A pair of reports this week detail Apple’s ongoing struggles in India, but also note a point of hope for the company. The Economic Times reports that iPhone sales continue to fall in India, but that India regulators are looking to ease local sourcing rules – which could help Apple’s efforts to open retail stores in the country. According to the report, iPhone shipments fell 42 percent during from January through March of this year, followed by a jump in April thanks to deep discounts from carriers....

iPad 2s have been spotted in Walmart display cases today, a day before sales begin, according to eagle-eyed Walmart shoppers. Imagination Technologies today announced that six key partners will be using their next-generation PowerVR Series 6 GPU code-named Rogue. However, the company named only three partners, saying the remaining three PowerVR Series6 licensees “are yet to be announced”. The three known ones are ST-Ericsson, Texas Instruments and MediaTek. Apple is currently a licensee of Imagination’s graphics unit incorporated in the Apple-branded mobile chip alongside ARM’s Cortex-based CPU unit. Apple’s A5 chip uses Imagination’s PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU unit which delivers a ninefold performance increase compared to the A4 chip....
