A suspected state-sponsored attack saw dozens of iPhones hacked by exploiting an iMessage vulnerability that remained unpatched for around a year. The attack was a so-called zero-click one because it didn’t require the victims to take any action: the hack was enabled simply by receiving a text message. The victims of the attack were Al Jazeera journalists, and is believed to have been carried out on behalf of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates governments, using spyware developed by Israeli company NSO Group....

Immediately after those purported iPad 3 back-shell photos broke loose, The Verge claimed Apple’s next-generation tablet would not include a rumored quad-core processor. The Verge‘s report contradicts findings inside beta builds of iOS 5.1 and a report from the typically accurate Bloomberg. An iPhone has been credited with saving the life of a woman badly injured in the suicide bombing at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, UK. The phone was said to have ‘diverted and slowed’ a nut that went through the woman’s cheek. The BBC reports that the nut first went through her iPhone, which she was using at the time to make a call. While it’s always impossible to know what would have happened without the phone in these situations, the extensive damage seen does suggest that impact with the iPhone would have slowed the nut to at least some degree, likely reducing the severity of the woman’s injuries....
