As reported by MacStories, developer James Whelton apparently was able to break through the sixth generation iPod nano’s “cache comparison” system to make unofficially supported modifications. The developer proved the concept in the video above by demonstrating the ability to remove apps off the device. Although this does not seem ground breaking, the possibility of apps, video, calendars, and games on the latest iPod nano could soon become a reality....

According to Macotakara, new colors will be one of the more visible features of Apple’s next-generation iPhone models. According to a new report from the Japanese website, Apple’s iPhone 5 successor, already dubbed by some as the “iPhone 5S,” will come in three additional colors on top of the already existing black/slate and white/silver designs found on the iPhone 5. The site also claims that Apple’s already-rumored cheaper iPhone will come in five colors, but the report does not specify if this is five colors in addition to the black and white models or including the black and white options....

One of Apple’s intriguing new accessories this year for iPhone 12 is the MagSafe Leather Wallet. While we saw some strange initial delays for early preorders, arrival times have come back to the original estimates and have begun shipping to customers. Netflix series Iron Fist was canceled before discussions were had about potential story ideas for season 3. I admit that I buy a new iPhone every year for the camera upgrades. My iCloud Photo Library is up to 14,633 photos and 1,261 videos and growing. Almost every one of those were captured with an iPhone so its camera matters to me. Last year’s iPhone 6s introduced Live Photos which I absolutely love. Weaker-than-expected demand for this year’s models has seen iPhone orders cut for the second time, claims a supply-chain report. It follows earlier reports that Apple had reduced orders for both the iPhone XS and iPhone XR … Digitimes makes the claim in a new report today. A fresh claim of iPhone workers being used as forced labor in China has appeared today, following an investigation by the Tech Transparency Project. It suggests that iPhone glass supplier Lens Technology has been using Muslim minority Uighurs, who were given the stark choice of working in the company’s plant or being sent to detention centers which have been likened to concentration camps … The Washington Post carries the report....

Gizmodo is reporting that Apple has added another layer of protection/rejection to the App Store approval process. According to some (well sourced?) developer Tweets, Apple has added a static analysis tool to look for private API calls inside submitted Apps. According to Gizmodo, they’re looking for apps that have been developed with third party SDKs. That might not bode well for Adobe’s next version of Flash CS5 which features exporting Flash applications to iPhone....

It takes a lot of guts to accuse some of the most popular iPad apps of putting form over function. That’s exactly what the Nielsen Norman Group has accomplished with a usability study which has proved in ways more than one that, unfortunately, many iPad apps and websites could use a little work in the usability department. The study stems from numerous observations collected from sixteen individuals who have owned iPads for two months....

The venerable iPad mini 4 still has its fans, despite its now somewhat odd position in the iPad line-up: more expensive than the 9.7-inch iPad, yet smaller and significantly less capable. Earlier today, a keyboard with much better support for the supposed iPad Pro, a device that has been rumored for some time now, was shown off thanks to the iOS 9 code. Steve Troughton Smith and Hiraku Wang now suggest that the iPad Pro will feature a resolution of 2732×2048, which at 12.9-inches, comes out to 263 pixels-per-inch. The current iPad Air 2 features a resolution of 2048×1536 at 9.7-inches. This means that the iPad Pro will nearly have the width resolution of two 9....
