Hackintoshes – PCs tweaked to run macOS with workarounds have been around for a while. But as Apple only wants its software to run on its own devices, it’s become more difficult over time to actually use them as functional machines. Now a new type of Hackintosh appears to be gaining some traction that may be useful for research and educational purposes, virtual Hackintoshes. Interestingly, a video of an iPad running macOS has just surfaced as the latest virtual Hackintosh....

Various leaks and renders have offered us close looks at the forthcoming iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max. Now, case maker Olixar claims to offer a detailed look at the iPhone 11 Max, including the new camera bump, a redesigned mute switch, and more. The case images from Olixar, which come courtesy of UK retailer Mobile Fun, show the iPhone 11 Max in gold. On the back, you can see the new triple-camera array housed in a new square camera bump....

Apple has filed a patent describing an iPod/iPhone-integrated personal fitness system capable of monitoring and recording personal fitness data, and of sharing and comparing different exerciser’s data using the web. Patent number 20090221404 involves interfacing portable media devices and sports equipment. It seemingly describes a solution that takes the existing Nike Plus system for personal training and adds numerous bells and whistles. The abstract of the filing, published last night and filed on September 26, 2008, reads: “Circuits, methods, and apparatus that allow sports or other equipment, such as gym or other cardio equipment, to write data to a media player....

OnePlus Nord N20 5G was launched in the United States as their new mid-range smartphone that runs on 11 with the OxygenOS 11 skin. The smartphone features a 6.43-inch full-HD+ AMOLED with a 60Hz refresh rate. It is powered by the Snapdragon 695 SoC, which is paired with 6GB of RAM. For optics, the smartphone sports a triple rear camera setup, which includes a 64 MP primary sensor, 8 MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2 MP depth sensor....

A week after the devices became available in 42 new countries around the globe, Apple today is making the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus available in two new countries. As the clock turns to October 16th, Apple’s newest flagship are available in Malaysia and India. Apple CEO Tim Cook tweeted the above picture of customers purchasing their new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus in India, thanking everyone he waited in line for extended periods of time to be able to obtain them on the first day of availability....

Office supply and electronics retailer OfficeMax/Office Depot have just cut their aftermarket battery replacement pricing to $28, just enough to undercut Apple by a buck. As reported by MacRumors, the retailer is offering the discounted service (normally $50) for iPhone 6/6 Plus and iPhone 6s/6s Plus. A battery replacement through OfficeMax or Office Depot comes with a one-year warranty, but keep in mind the retailers aren’t authorized Apple service providers (AASP)....

Because the files are from the SDK, we may be looking at the new iPad’s actual FaceTime application. The interface is very similar to the one found on FaceTime for Mac. As we previously noted, the new iPad will feature an updated FaceTime logo, that is different than the one currently found on iOS 4....

An analysis of supply chain readiness suggests that Apple is expecting initial iPhone 11 sales to outstrip those of the iPhone XS/XS Max/XR — but not by a large margin. Looking specifically at the launch period, Apple suppliers appear to be gearing up for initial sales of 75 million units, which is only slightly higher than the same period last year… In a note to investment clients, Wedbush says that there is, however, capacity to boost production should the new models do better than expected....

T-Mobile and Orange hope their merger to create Britain’s largest mobile phone network will enable them to win the rights to the handset. The combination beats Apple’s current iPhone partner, O2, into becoming the UK’s second network. We also understand the O2 iPhone tie-up is under review, with some summer reports claiming the exclusive arrangement’s set to fall apart in early October. Tom Alexander, Orange’s UK chief executive, told The Telegraph: “We [Orange] are already the network of choice for multimedia devices, we’ve already got the biggest 3G network (which is used to deliver mobile phone broadband), now with T-Mobile we’ve got an even stronger 3G network....

The warranty provider found the iPad mini to withstand drop and water damage quite well. When dropped on its side, it received a little crack to its screen, and it remained functional when dunked in water. However, when the iPad mini was dropped flat on its face, the most damage was endured....

While I’ve long argued that Apple products do well on the longevity front, and I typically keep a MacBook for 4-5 years, the company keeps persuading me to buy new iPads. I quickly went from the original iPad to the iPad 2. Then to the Air. Then the Air 2. Then the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. Then the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. There’s also no doubt that it’s going to sell me a new iPad this year; there’s just a tiny question-mark in my mind about which one …...
