The Irish coronavirus contact tracing app was launched yesterday, and has already been installed by more than 10% of the country’s population in less than 24 hours … The stat was noted by Steve Troughton-Smith. The app provides privacy assurances by using the Apple/Google API, which has doubtless encouraged adoption. It had earlier been speculated that the app would have to be available in the UK App Store so that it works in Northern Ireland, and we can confirm that this is indeed the case....

In the 40-plus years that the NBC sketch comedy institution Saturday Night Live has been on the air, the show has naturally seen lots of cast turnover. Sometimes cast members leave after long tenures, some leave after short runs to move on to solo projects, and others are let go after having been deemed expendable by producers. To date, SNL has played host to nearly 150 regular cast members, and it’s hard to imagine the seemingly eternal show, which has garnered some of its best ratings this season, not one day hitting the 200 cast member mark....

There’s a very strong case to be made that Goodfellas might be their best work together. This 1990 crime epic charts the rise and fall of main character Henry Hill (Ray Liotta), who is seduced by the mafia lifestyle until the good things inevitably crumble. From Scorsese’s slick direction to the fantastic performances, including Joe Pesci’s Oscar-winning turn as psychotic gangster Tommy, it’s a near-flawless movie. Apple today introduced the iPhone 12 lineup with four new models, all of which support 5G networks for the first time. However, the super-fast 5G mmWave is exclusive to models sold in the US. One feature difference between iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max is Display Zoom, an accessibility feature that makes content on the screen appear larger than the default resolution. This was introduced on iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but was notably absent on iPhone X. The display feature is still absent on iPhone XS, but the larger iPhone XS Max version restores it. There are rumors that Apple will transition to Nvidia for certain Macs in the near future. While we’re awaiting for a press release announcing a millionth iPad 2 sold, Fortune’s Philip Elmer-DeWitt has put together a nice summary of analysts’ estimates concerning iPad 2 weekend sales. The number range from 500,000 to one million units sold this past weekend, but Apple could easily blow conservative analysts out of the water with higher-than-expected sales as Apple’s spokeswoman calls iPad 2 demand “amazing”. While Gene Munster with Piper Jaffray cautioned clients to expect weekend shipments to top half a million units, other analysts expect at least twice as much....

The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro went on sale last Friday with 5G touted as a flagship feature, but Google Fi customers are currently not able to use that faster network. Update: Reuters is disputing the iPad claim According to a research note from Yuanta Securities Co. today, Apple initially planned to launch the iPad 2 during April of this year, but due to a number of reasons this launch may be delayed until June.
