As we noted earlier today, Apple has discontinued its iPod nano and iPod shuffle. The company has also simplified and updated its pricing on the current iPod touch, bringing pricing down by up to $100. As part of the move, Apple is making the 32GB and 128GB models the only options and reducing prices in the process. Previously Apple offered 16, 32, 64, and 128GB options for the iPod touch with pricing at $199, $249, $299, and $399, respectively....

Although the last few days have been packed with rumors pointing to a smaller iPhone with a smaller display, Digitimes is now reporting that Apple’s fifth-generation iPhone, due in June, will pack a 4-inch display to go toe-to-toe with Android device’s larger displays. This information is said to come directly from Apple’s production lines. Earlier today another rumor claimed that Apple is working on three prototypes for their next generation iPhone with one of them including a physical, slide out keyboard and the other being mostly an internal upgrade with a speedier chip and an eight-megapixel camera....

It turns out Apple included a stealthy update with iOS 14.2 that didn’t appear in the release notes. With the latest public release, iPhone 8 and later have gained support for 1080p FaceTime HD video calls on Wi-Fi and for iPhone 12, on 5G and Wi-Fi. Discovered by MacMagazine (via Google Translate), Apple didn’t detail the upgrade in resolution for FaceTime calls that has arrived for iPhones all the way back to iPhone 8....

AAPL stock is up more than 4% in pre-market trading after the company yesterday announced its Q3 results, despite iPhone revenue falling in both cash and percentage terms. Earnings for fiscal Q3 (calendar Q2) were slightly higher than expected, at $53.8B. This was a little above the midpoint of Apple’s own guidance of $53.5B, and above analyst expectations of $53.39B. Surveys of sales through carrier stores suggest that last year’s iPhone 7/Plus is outselling the new iPhone 8/Plus in the U.S. and UK. A low-light test of the telephoto lens in the iPhone X has revealed that it works in a quarter of the light needed by the iPhone 7 Plus.
