NFC stands for near-field-communication and this technology would allow users to utilize their iPhone 5 or iPad 2 as debit cards to make payments. The technology works at a distance to up to four inches, and is controlled within the phone and with an external NFC tag on each respective item or payment center. The report’s sources for this information are “engineers who are working on hardware for the Apple project....

Continuing with this week’s flow of supposed iPhone 8 leaks, Benjamin Geskin is back at it again today. The latest images show off the iPhone 8’s mold with the new vertical dual-lens camera system lining up with his previous leaks. Geskin shared three images on Twitter today along with the message, “#iPhone8 mold and diagram leaked.” The first image contains a schematics sheet appearing to show off cut-outs for the vertical dual-lens camera, Lightning port, and power button....

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo estimates that iPhone 12 preorders are more than twice the level seen for the iPhone 11 last year. Highly respected DxOMark has published its ultra detailed iPhone 7 camera review and the results are overwhelmingly positive across the board. iPhone 7 actually scores higher than the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, which both tied with lower scores despite an improved camera on both models, which speaks to the advances Apple has made this year on the 4.7-inch iPhone even without the dual-sensor iPhone 7 Plus. While DxOMark says its separate iPhone 7 Plus test is coming soon, there is plenty to dive into with the improved optics of the iPhone 7 for both still photography and video....

The new iPhone SE 2020 is successful in its intended role, says Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), based on its latest buyer survey. Apple wanted the iPhone SE to persuade owners of older iPhones to upgrade, without impacting too much on sales of more expensive models — and purchase data for the last fiscal quarter suggests that it has succeeded in this aim… The data showed that some 73% of those buying an iPhone SE were upgrading from a model more than four years old....

Following a slew of updates to iWork, Apple has released a minor update to iPhoto for iOS, part of its iLife suite. The update adds a new border printing option. When ordering prints, you can now frame your photos with a white border. As usual, the update also includes miscellaneous bug fixes and “other improvements”. iPhoto costs $5 on the App Store, but new iOS device purchases automatically unlocks the app for the registered account for free....

We noted earlier this week that the $39 Smart Covers for Apple’s new iPad mini started arriving for lucky customers. Today, French website iGen.fr posted the images above from a reader who just received their preordered iPad mini ahead of this Friday’s official launch. Nowhereelse.fr has commissioned designer Martin Hajek to mockup the iPhone 6, using the most recent leaks about the upcoming device. The renders, shown above, use the supposed iPhone cases pictured on Wednesday and leaked schematics from late March to envisage the look of the future iPhone. Naturally, the most striking change is the display, stretching almost edge-to-edge. Going to an edge-to-edge screen (thereby minimizing the width of the size bezels) means that the physical dimensions of the phone will not get much bigger than the current iPhone 5s design, despite the significant screen-size increase from 4 to roughly 4....

News latest comes from Lab49, which today announced it has begun developing applications for the device for the financial services industries, focused on buyers and sellers within those markets.
