LG Display, which makes IPS LCD displays for iPhones, says that demand from its clients remains strong despite a number of reports of sluggish iPhone 8 sales. The company’s chief financial officer made the comment while announcing an 80% increase in quarterly profits, just ahead of expectations … Reuters reports that LG expects LCD screen shipments to ‘increase by “a mid-single digit percent” in the current quarter.’ LG also makes Apple Watch displays, though these are OLED rather than LCD....

The iPhone 11 launch saw iOS make market share gains in Europe, Australia, and Japan, but it suffered a fall in share in its home market of the US, according to Kantar. T-Mobile US’s customer base jumped by 1.1 million in its financial Q2, with the iPhone – offered by the carrier for the first time back in April – accounting for 29 percent of sales. The company had lost over 200,000 customers in the same quarter the previous year. The company’s turnaround is being attributed to a combination of its new approaches to contracts – Uncarrier (whose introduction was not without controversy) and Jump – and the decision to add the iPhone 5 to its handset range....

Earlier this year, Apple agreed to pay out up to $500 million to settle a class action lawsuit in the United States over its decision to throttle iPhone performance when battery health declined. Now, a new website has been set up for affected iPhone owners to be able to submit a claim for payout. As we reported earlier this year, Apple will pay between $310 million and $510 million to settle the lawsuit....

As the busiest shopping time of the year quickly approaches, iPhone X shipping times in the United States and Canada have fallen to 1-2 weeks on the Apple Online Store. This comes following last week’s improvement to 2-3 weeks. At their worst, shipping times touched 5-6 weeks the day after iPhone X pre-orders went live. Since then, however, Apple has been working to improve delivery estimates, while in-store availability has also been gradually improving....

Apple seems on course to launch the iPad in China as it has gained a key approval from Chinese authorities. Apple’s iPad has received a safety certification mark from Chinese regulators. The company has made no announcements regarding future release of the iPad in China, but given the company’s massive increase in visibility there, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure it out. On Monday, the device was given the China Compulsory Certification by the China Quality Certification Center according to the regulator’s Web site, as reported here....
