It looks like Apple is tracking iPhone users data including IMEI number, IP address and stock quote preferences (amongst other things) through a hidden string in the Weather.app and Stocks.app iPhone applications. This information is sent to “http://iphone-wu.apple.com/dgw?imei=%@&apptype=finance" (IP resolved “17.254.32.16”). See screenshot below for details. From this information, Apple could build a profile on users. Where they travel, where they spend their free time, where they work, where they invest their money, what they browse, etc etc....

A few 9to5mac readers have written in to let us know that their iPad 2 orders have already shipped with delivery date for next week. Others have let us know that their iPad 2s are prepared for shipment with a March 18th delivery date. These particular orders were processed prior to Apple delaying shipments for 2-3 weeks from the 3-5 business days starting point. Apple’s online store is not the only store seeing shortages with Apple retail stores quickly selling out of many of the 18 models....

iFixit did a livestream this year of its iPhone 11 Pro teardown. Now it is diving in and analyzing all of its findings. Notably, iFixit has noticed a new board in the iPhone 11 Pro Max that was may have been included for the bilateral wireless charging feature that was expected but didn’t end up shipping with this year’s iPhones. Earlier this year, reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple would offer bilateral wireless charging for the iPhone 11 lineup....

Update 2: AT&T says demand is higher than iPhone launches from the last two years (via Recode): “Demand for the new iPhones is higher than that seen in either of the past two years, AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel told Re/code.” Update: All models of the 5.5 inch iPhone 6 Plus are now quoting 3-4 weeks shipping. Apple is still stocking most models of the iPhone 6, however. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus launch has not been smooth, to say the least....

Though the vast majority of advance iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus reviews spoke only superficially about the performance of Apple’s latest cameras, several reviewers have spotlighted major performance improvements over the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus that weren’t obvious from Apple’s marketing materials. Much of the pre-release attention has been focused on Live Photos, higher megapixel counts, and the ease of 3D Touch access to the cameras, all noted by Apple during its September 9 media event....

Analysts at UBS and Morgan Stanley this morning raised price targets on the company’s stock. UBS upped its target to $265 from $170, saying iPhone prospects look bright. The analyst firm also said, “Apple may be working on building out a foundation for a service ot provide seamless access and mobility of digital content across its products,” according to Marketwatch. Morgan Stanley analyst Kathryn Huberty surprised us all this morning with a bullish AAPL report, saying the expiration of exclusive deals and a move to broaden iPhone distribution will drive major growth for Apple....

Last week we told you about a new online lottery system for reservations that Apple setup for iPhone 4S sales through its Hong Kong stores to combat scalpers after it was forced to suspend sales of the device in various locations throughout Mainland China. Unfortunately, until this week, Apple’s online store for China has been out of stock since the overwhelming launch. After implementing the new reservation policies on Tuesday, and in Beijing on Wednesday, Apple has now resumed online sales of the device with shipments arriving to customers no later than March 2, reported ChinaDaily....

A new analyst note from Gartner today estimates how the global smartphone market performed during the June quarter. While we already knew Apple’s iPhone shipments were likely close to flat based on the company’s reported quarterly revenue, today’s analyst note underscores how well iPhone performed relatively speaking as the global market saw a big 20% decline. Apple had a record-breaking June quarter thanks to big growth in almost every product category except for iPhone where it just saw 1....

Dying Light 2 is an open-world, story-driven game, but as an added bonus, multiplayer will be included so that players can go through the story cooperatively with up to 4 players. Players will be able to play through the story with up to 4 players, but this isn’t a save game that everyone has access to. Instead, one player will be the host whilst the other three players join. Update: Yujingguang, also known as Genius Electronic Optical, has now denied the report. Noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is reporting that a quality problem has emerged during testing of iPhone 12 camera lenses from one of Apple’s suppliers. Coatings on the wide-angle lenses were found to have cracked … Smartphone-use lens modules Genius Electronic Optical (GSEO) has maintained its production is still running without issues, and demand from its brand handset clients remains normal....

Market intelligence firm Kantar thinks that the iPhone 12 mini could set a trend for smaller, premium smartphones. With Apple having launched the iPhone 12 mini as part of its latest line-up, smaller phone form factors might also become more popular as a result … The firm said that more than 12% of smartphone buyers choose a model ‘specifically for how it fits in their hand/pocket.’ Unsurprisingly, Kantar also believes that Apple’s move into 5G will accelerate interest in the faster mobile data standard....

Reuters is reporting that iPhone 6 production was disrupted for part of June and July after Apple was forced to abandon its plans to use a thinner display backlighting system in the new handset. Suppliers to Apple are scrambling to get enough screens ready for the new iPhone 6 smartphone as the need to redesign a key component disrupted panel production ahead of next month’s expected launch, supply chain sources said …...

Emails and a video deposition by Steve Jobs are likely to form key elements of the evidence in an iPod-related antitrust case against Apple which opens in California tomorrow, reports the NYT. The case goes back more than a decade, to the time when iPods would play only music purchased from iTunes or ripped from CD, with consumers unable to play music bought from competing stores. The class action alleges that this amounted to anti-competitive behaviour, and that consumers were forced to pay higher prices as a result … As in the long-running ebook anti-trust case, emails written by Steve Jobs are expected to form a significant role in the case....

The Apple Online Store has just come back online after about two hours of downtime in preparation for the iPad Air launch in the United States.
