Yes, rusty. Well, oxidized connectors on the cable, but oxidation is just a fancy word for rust. I used to see this problem occasionally, maybe once every month or so, but over the past six months or so, I’ve seen dozens of examples of this problem causing iPhone charging problems. And before you ask, yes, the problem affects both third-party and genuine Apple cables. Is your cable affected? You can tell by looking at the gold fingers on the connector....

While Apple doesn’t typically mention support for new cellular bands or smaller LTE advancements, it has seemingly been confirmed (via Twitter) that the iPhone Xs, iPhone Xs Max, and likely iPhone XR will all have support for HPUE. It’s not entirely clear if all three of today’s new iPhone models support HPUE, but it seems likely that at least the iPhone Xs and iPhone Xs Max do – with the iPhone XR being a possible outlier....

Engadget has retracted its earlier report claiming that Apple’s second generation iPad will include an SD card reader and a “super-high resolution” display, and is now backing up much of what we have heard about the iPad 2 already. Engadget‘s sources claim that the new iPad will feature the same display as the first generation model (screen size and resolution) and will be mostly a tech spec update. The new specs are said to include a brand-new, faster processor called the A5 in addition to a RAM upgrade to match the 512 MB found in Apple’s flagship smartphone (iPhone 4)....

Having launched only a few months ago, Apple’s new iPad Pro challenged third-party developers to quickly come up with new accessories worth showing this year at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show. A bunch of companies rose to the occasion at CES, showing off new cases, keyboards, and batteries made to handle the 12.9″ tablet’s size and needs. The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro boasts a 20% faster processor on paper, but how does that translate into real-world use? Not great at least running iOS 13.0 when compared to the iPhone XS. Strategy Analytics reports Apple’s 7.4 million iPhones shipped internationally worldwide in Q3 2009 gives the Cupertino company a record 2.5 percent marketshare. “Apple is expanding its distribution networks into all major regions worldwide and this is driving its volume growth,” the analysts observed. According to the analysts, this climb in share comes as global mobile handset shipments fell 4 percent year-over-year, to reach 291 million units in Q3 2009. Supply-chain sources cited by the variably-reliable Digitimes claim that Apple’s Q2 chip orders are down on previous years, and that demand for the iPhone SE is not high enough to offset declining demand for the iPhone 6s/Plus. While spam iMessages are nothing new, this newfound push in China seems to center around promoting gambling – which is primarily illegal in mainland China, save for two officially-sanctioned lotteries… As noted by Abacus News, iPhone users in China are taking to Weibo to complain about the onslaught of gambling-related spam messages. The messages generally appear to be coming from casinos and either link to WeChat accounts or suspicious gambling websites....
