Here’s how to watch Boardwalk Empire online, including whether the show is on Netflix, Hulu or Prime. Based on the book of the same name by writer and lawyer Nelson Johnson, HBO’s period crime drama Boardwalk Empire is set in prohibition-era Atlantic City and focuses on the rise and fall of politician-turned-racketeer Enoch “Nucky” Thompson who is played by Steve Buscemi. Alongside the character of Nucky, who is based on real-life Atlantic City politician Enoch L. Johnson, Boardwalk Empire also featured a host of other legendary figures involved in the bootlegging scene including mobsters like Charles “Lucky” Luciano (Vincent Piazza) and Al Capone (Stephen Graham).
Boardwalk Empire was a big hit with critics and won several Emmys, Golden Globes and Screen Actors Guild Awards over the course of its five years on the air. Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, and Boardwalk Empire aired its fifth and final season in 2014 which befittingly covered the inevitable downfall of Nucky and the undoing of prohibition in the early 1930s.
Another way to watch Boardwalk Empire is via HBO’s new streaming service HBO Max. When HBO Max launches in the USA in May 2020, Boardwalk Empire will be available to watch alongside plenty of other HBO shows like Game Of Thrones, The Sopranos, Sex And The City and Westworld.
