As the new ZenFone comes with a premium price tag, users do expect it to be a completely waterproof device. However no ip68 ratings were found on ZenFone 5Z official page. Asus Zenfone 5Z Splash Proof Test
When Asus Zenfone 5Z is subjected to water droplets, the device does not respond to touches. The touchscreen becomes completely un-responsive what so ever. No ghost touches or miss touches are registered. However when the device is taken out and cleaned with a microfiber cloth; the touchscreen starts working again in its normal working condition. The device seems to work fine after a splash prof test. No fog or water droplets are detected in screen or camera lens, which is a good thing. Being a 20k premium smartphone, being splashproof is a must-have feature.
Asus Zenfone 5Z Washing Test
Another test which reveals the waterproof capabilities of a smartphone is the washing test. In this test, we are going to wash the device in water for approx 1 minute. Later on, we will inspect the device for any water damage.
When Asus Zenfone 5Z is subjected to water in washing test, it becomes slippery which is normal subjecting to its metal finish. This is not a bad thing as most smartphones get slippery in water. However, the screen completely unresponsive under water. As the screen becomes unresponsive to touch which makes it impossible to take pictures or to accept calls under showering conditions.

I/O Ports Water Test
in this test, we try to check whether the water will go inside the device or not. Most smartphones come to waterproof coating over their I/O ports and Zenfone 5Z also seems to have one as well.
It appears that I/O ports do have a proper waterproof coating. The headphone jack does not detect any ghost inputs while immersed in water. Also, the charging point seems to work fine under water. Additionally, no fog or moisture appears near camera lens or touchscreen itself. This indicates that the device is still operational afterZenfone 5Z Waterproof test.
Asus Zenfone 5Z Water Immersion Test
When Asus Zenfone 5Z is subjected to water immersion test, no water droplets were observed. This means that the device is completely sealed from inside and does not allow water droplets to pierce through. So it turns out that Asus latest flagship Zenfone 5Z is entirely waterproof and splashproof as well.
