Evan Blass, prominent leaker and VentureBeat reporter, has revealed what he believes to be the release window for the next iPhone. If his hunch is correct, then we should expect the iPhone 7 and its various iterations to be released during the week of September 12th, 2016.

Since Apple traditionally positions its major hardware releases for Fridays, a release during the week of September 12th would mean that the next iPhone would be released on Friday, September 16th, 2016.

Blass has been a very credible source of leaks in the past, but he doesn’t own a perfect track record when it comes to iPhone-related subject matter. For example, he claimed that Apple was planning on releasing an iPhone 6c at the same time as the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Instead, we saw the release of the iPhone SE the following March.

That said, when a person with Blass’ history speaks, it makes sense to listen. However, until Apple issues invites for its upcoming fall press event, which will likely occur sometime in late August, it’s difficult to pinpoint exact release dates, as Apple has been known to change its internal scheduling.

In the upcoming fall event, it’s largely expected that Apple will reveal two, or possibly three, new iPhones. The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus appear to be locks, with a so-called iPhone 7 Pro sporting Smart Connector contacts still up in the air.

The biggest and most controversial news surrounding the new iPhone is that Apple will drop the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of wireless Bluetooth headphones and/or Lightning headphones. There still seems to be mixed ideas about how Apple will go about facilitating such a change, but the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack in the next batch of iPhones is a lock according to reports.

Fans can also expect an improved rear camera with a larger housing for the iPhone 7, and a new dual camera system for the bigger iPhone 7 Plus. Along with these changes, leaks indicate that we will see cleaner, redesigned antenna lines, and base models starting at a more customer-friendly 32GB instead of 16GB.
